Shannon Harms Bio

Shannon Harms is a Physical Therapist with 24+ years of experience. She owns and operates Empower Physical Therapy in Bismarck, ND. Her goal is to help “Empower” her patients to live their best life.

Shannon grew up in Harvey, ND, and was active in sports and school clubs throughout middle and high school. After graduating from Harvey High School, Shannon attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. While at Concordia, Shannon was active in Track & Field and competed in the indoor and outdoor national MIAC track meets. She graduated from Concordia with a major in biology and a minor in psychology. She attended graduate school at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND, graduating Suma Cume Laude from the University of Mary with a master’s degree in physical therapy.

Shannon worked in a large medical center setting for the first 19 years of her career. During that time, she worked in numerous areas and gained invaluable experience that guides and influences the way she practices today. In addition to her general therapy practice, Shannon has specialized training utilizing the following treatments: dry needling, myofascial release (MFR), instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), kinesiotaping, wound care, raindrop treatment, and symphony of cells.

Shannon is married to Jeremy, her high school sweetheart. Together they have two children, daughter Addison and son Avery. They live in Bismarck with their many pets. In her spare time, Shannon enjoys following her children’s activities, watching sports (joint replacements no longer allow her to participate), reading, fishing, kayaking, relaxing in the hammock, and spending time with her family.

Shannon knows firsthand what it is like to fracture a bone, have joints replaced, recover from surgery, and fight cancer. This firsthand experience gives her the compassion you would look for in a physical therapist.
